Closing Down FAQ

This page contains instructions for configuring
chargers with Charge HQ
Please refer to our
charger listing for details on supported models and charger specifications.

When is Charge HQ closing?

The service will close on 2026-09-07.

Until then, the service will operate as normal for existing users. Sign up is no longer possible.

Free access

The final month of service will be free for all users. Subscription payments were stopped on 2026-07-06, and all features made available to all users. This means that all users will receive between 1 and 2 months for free, depending on when their subscription renewed.

Why is Charge HQ closing?

Please see We're saying goodbye to Charge HQ

What do I need to do?

Before closure

You can keep using Charge HQ as normal until the closure.

You may wish to download your charging history as CSV data.

After closure

After the service has been shutdown there are some actions you may need to take to restore your vehicle or charger to default charging behaviour. See Offboarding your equipment for details. You can take these actions any time prior to the closure if you are ready to stop using Charge HQ.

What about refunds?

As a gesture of goodwill we are giving all users at least one month of free access prior to closure. Refunds are not available, per our Refund Policy.

What can I use instead of Charge HQ?

Alternatives to Charge HQ include:

  • Amber for EVs. For those in supported regions in Australia, Amber's smart EV product is similar to Charge HQ, being entirely cloud-based and offering similar features including solar charging, scheduling and more advanced price-based charging. It also includes a "ready by" feature. It supports Tesla vehicles, and most of the solar inverters supported by Charge HQ, plus quite a few more.
  • EVCC. A free and open-source project which installs on a local device eg Raspberry Pi and provides smart charging features including solar charging. It integrates to a wide range of solar inverters and EV chargers and has a good feature set. Setup requires a bit of effort. Tesla vehicle integration is possible but tricky to setup.
  • Home Assistant plus an EV smart charging plugin eg this one. A free and open-source project. Requires a local device eg a Raspberry Pi. We haven't tested any of the EV charging plugins, and this solution is likely to be quite fiddly to setup.
  • Tesla Charge on Solar. If you have a Tesla Powerwall and a Tesla vehicle, it comes with solar charging out-of-the-box. See this article for a comparison with Charge HQ.
  • Solar-aware EV chargers. See this guide for more info: Options for EV charging from solar.

We realise that these alternatives may not be suitable for everyone, due to incompatible equipment or various other reasons. We're sorry for the disruption that this closure may cause.

What will happen to my data?

All personal data, including Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and payment methods, will be permanently deleted. All equipment connection details, eg Tesla accounts, vehicle IDs, inverter serial numbers, credentials etc will be permanently deleted. This will occur within 30 days after the closure date.

Anonymised charging data may be retained, as it is a useful resource when researching EV charging patterns. This data will be anonymised and can never be associated with an individual.

Download your data

If you wish to keep a copy of your charging history it can be downloaded as CSV - see this article. Please remember to do this before the closure date - it will not be possible to obtain your charging history once the service is closed.
