Tesla is changing the way that permissions work for third-party apps such as Charge HQ to obtain the vehicle's location. You may need to enable the Vehicle Location permission in your Tesla account to allow Charge HQ to work correctly.
Previously, the Vehicle Data permission enabled Charge HQ to obtain the vehicle's location. In late 2024 Tesla introduced a new Vehicle Location permission, which was required for new connections only. Beginning some time around April 2025, the Vehicle Data permission will no longer allow access to vehicle location, and all users must enable the Vehicle Location permission.
Charge HQ requests the vehicle's location at particular times in order to determine if the vehicle is at home or not. This is to prevent Charge HQ from controlling charging when the vehicle is away from home. We don't want Charge HQ stopping your charging session when you are travelling!
Charge HQ only requests the vehicle's location when the charge cable is plugged in. It does not request the vehicle's location at any other time.
If you don't grant the Vehicle Location permission, Charge HQ can not determine if the vehicle is at home or not. In this case, Charge HQ always assumes the vehicle is at home and will always control charging, unless a DC fast charger or Supercharger is detected.
Charge HQ does regularly request the vehicle location for pre-2021 Model S/X. This is legacy behaviour.
