If you have a compatible solar inverter but don’t have an energy meter, Charge HQ only knows about your total solar production. It doesn’t know how much energy the rest of your home (excluding EV charging) is using. When solar tracking is used, it will use all solar production for EV charging, meaning any energy used by other appliances in your home will come from the grid.
The preferred option is to install a compatible energy meter. If you can’t, solar tracking margin and blockout schedules may assist.
This setting allows adjusting the charging power above or below the available solar, such that:
charging power = available solar - margin
For example, if your home typically uses around 1 kW of power, you might set the Solar Tracking Margin to 1 kW.
In the Charge HQ app, go to Settings → Solar Tracking → Advanced → Solar Tracking Margin
You can override solar charging on a schedule if there are regular times of the day when your rooftop solar system is generating power but you expect it to be less than home energy consumption.
Blockout schedules override solar charging and can be configured by time of day, and day of the week.
In the Charge HQ app, to go Settings → Scheduled Charging → Add a blockout period
