Why am I seeing Tesla telemetry limit reached?

This page contains instructions for configuring
chargers with Charge HQ
Please refer to our
charger listing for details on supported models and charger specifications.

If you see an error like "Your vehicle has reached the maximum number of third-party apps using telemetry" then Charge HQ is not able to obtain data from your vehicle, and will not function correctly.

Tesla vehicles can only supply telemetry to a limited number of third-party apps. For some vehicles this limit is three apps, for other vehicles it may be higher.

Tesla is hoping to increase this limit in the near future (source), but for now the limit can not be worked around.

What can I do?

To get Charge HQ working you'll need to remove at least one other third-party app. You can do this by either:

  • logging into your Tesla account at tesla.com, going to Account Settings -> Security -> Third Party Apps and revoking access, or
  • on the vehicle touchscreen, select Locks, find and delete the virtual key for another app

Once removed, it may take several hours for Charge HQ to enable telemetry on your vehicle. To speed this up, in the Charge HQ app go to Settings -> My Equipment and disconnect and reconnect to your Tesla account.
