Why isn't my EV solar charging?

This page contains instructions for configuring
chargers with Charge HQ
Please refer to our
charger listing for details on supported models and charger specifications.

If you have solar tracking enabled, Charge HQ will automatically start and stop charging based on available solar generation.

In order to start charging, available solar generation needs to exceed the minimum required by the car or wall charger. Some common values are:

  • Tesla, with a single phase charger @ 240 volts: 5A / 1.2kW
  • Tesla, with a three phase charger @ 240 volts: 2A x 3 / 1.44kW

The amount of solar required to enable charging will also be impacted by any Advanced Solar Tracking settings you have.

  • Solar tracking margin: when set, generation must exceed the sum of this value + the vehicle minimum.
  • Min excess solar: when set, excess generation must exceed the sum of this value + the vehicle minimum.
  • - Solar tracking margin + Min excess solar: if both values are set, both conditions must be satisfied
  • Min solar generation: when set, the total solar production must exceed this value for solar charging to occur.

The diagnostics menu on the app home screen may provided further guidance as to why charging is enabled or disabled.
