Why does my Tesla draw power when the battery is not charging?

This page contains instructions for configuring
chargers with Charge HQ
Please refer to our
charger listing for details on supported models and charger specifications.

When connected to a wall charger, Tesla EVs will occasionally use power directly from the wall charger for vehicle air conditioning and battery pack temperature control (heating / cooling). Whilst it may result in energy consumption from the grid, it has the benefit of reducing cycles of the EV battery.

As this power consumption is not used for charging the battery, Charge HQ has no control over it. It may occur outside of periods of scheduled charging or solar charging.

Note also, this energy consumption cannot be distinguished from EV charging in the data provided by Tesla and will appear in the Charge HQ charging stats.
